La Casa De Papel (Money Heist) –

The Money Heist is a popular Netflix series. The Poster of “Money Heist”  portrays many secret/hidden messages about the series and society on its own. The first thing that stands out about the poster is that the poster is split in two sides. In one side the gentleman with a black costume, clean/fresh looks is portrayed and on the other hand there is a person with a red prisoner/robber overall. The poster portrays the person split in two sides, this connotes that the guy as dual persona, this could mean that he appears as a gentleman but deeply inside he is a professional robber who is hiding his identity with a mask. Therefore the poster clearly conveys that this guy is very intelligent as not only that he appears smart on one side, on another side he is wearing a famous artist mask which is stereotypical to other robbers as they are usually seen wearing something simple like black masks. However the poster could also convey that society is viewing these characters as murders and very bad people but on a real life they are not its only a propaganda, they may be gentle people like portrayed on the first side of the poster. Although the poster gives an idea of robbery being a main subject of the series, the poster does not portray any violence, there is no guns, no angry/violent faces etc. This is un-stereotypical to antagonists which suggests that these people have different intentions. This also gives an idea that the series will be focused on antagonistic characters. The red overall in the poster suggests violence/blood/crime however contrasting with painters mask, conveys the intelligence and different intentions, as if they were to smart to kill someone. In overall the poster shows the audience that the genre of the series will be action/adventure as robbery and danger are usually seen in these two genres. The poster also tells me that these robbers will act differently then as what we used to see, so therefore will attract the audiences. And lastly I can tell that the characters might have a dual persona and therefore act secretly as the poster is divided into two sides.

Dont-Speak[1].jpg

“Don’t Speak” From the poster I can tell that the movie is a horror genre because of many aspects. One aspect that tells me that “Don’t speak” is a horror movie is the lighting. The dark lighting in the poster creates an atmosphere of terror which frightens the audience and makes them feel uncomfortable. The Dim low-key lighting is a massive stereotype of horror movies as it creates a mysterious and moody atmosphere which opens the inner fears of the audience, whereas if high-key lighting was used the mood would be much brighter. The use of blood in the poster connotes the danger and maybe death, therefore informs the audience about incoming horror. Blood is another stereotype of horror movies as every horror movie includes danger to life/paranormal. Nevertheless the character in the poster looks unhuman-like and therefore is wearing white dress. The portrayal of this women is purposely made to illustrate paranormal and unnatural, this creates fear and horror to an audience as paranormal is one of the biggest fears of the society. The use texture in the poster also creates mood for the audience, “Don’t Speak” and “can you keep the secret” directly addresses the audience, the direct address is also used to terrify the audience as the director is talking to you as if this movie was made for you only and situation in the film may reflect your life. All codes and conventions in the posters are made purposely to introduce the horror genre to an audience and create a right atmosphere for the movie.

Both posters are presented in basic non-colours, black and white, in this way narrative is presented once again, atmosphere is created and negativity is presented meaning that the movie will be based on antagonists. “The money Heist” – robbers/thief’s and “Don’t speak” – Paranormal character.

Nevertheless in “Don’t speak poster” the women is looking directly in the camera, this creates an affect of horror to an audience as she is directly trying to make an eye contact with an audience, therefore narrator uses this to expose the inner fears of an audience which is the main target of a horror movies. Therefore in this way the movie would attract wider audiences,
